Rhythm and Hues

The purple ribbon is associated with Domestic Violence Awareness and October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

I am currently planning an event entitled, Rhythm and Hues, that will raise awareness and help break the silence against domestic violence. The event will take place in Atlanta, Georgia on October 7, 2017, from 5-7 pm. Purple is the hue for the evening and will be used throughout the event.

(Detailed information about the Safe House is kept private for security purposes.)

I remember what it was like when I had to go there a few years ago. The feeling is something that will never go away. I remember what they told me I could bring with me, where my children and I would sleep, and how different our lives would be.

I was a victim trying to find my way out.
I suffered in silence until I was suffocating.

When I left my situation, I was proud and terrified. I had no clue what I was going to do or how I was going to take care of my children. I just knew that I wasn’t going to be a victim anymore.

I have struggled for years trying to recover from the blow of domestic violence, a dissolved marriage, and becoming a single mother with no job and a lot of debt. Despite all of my struggles, I vowed that I would do something to help the women to have a better Safe House experience.

Last year I was able to assist in raising over $300 worth of items for the women and children at the safe house. This year, I want to do more.

I need your help to make this event happen!

All attendees will choose their favorite purple hues and paint a custom canvas that represents what it means to be a survivor. Light hors d’oeuvres will be available. A live DJ will be there to regulate the vibes. Poetry will be delivered by 5 domestic violence survivors throughout the evening. Sponsors will have vending space available at the event. Stories of domestic violence survivors will be written out and posted around the event as well.

I am not the only one that walked through those Safe House doors feeling hopeless and defeated.

I do, however, want to be the one that makes a difference.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to Breaking the Silence with you through Rhythm and Hues!
