I have been asked over and over so I figured that I should make the information available. The question that prompted this is…
“How can I start driving for uber?”
Well, signing up is easy. All you have to do is click the link. From there, you will be walked through the next steps to set up your account and get started.
If you have a car, you will be prompted to enter information about your vehicle. You will also need to submit a picture of your driver’s license, insurance card, and registration.
Vehicle Requirements: 4 door sedan (holds 4-5 passengers)
2001 or newer (varies by city)
in-state registration, insurance, and plates
unmarked (no decals or stickers on the body)
If you don’t have a car, you can apply to lease a car through the leasing program with uber. You can also rent a vehicle on a weekly or monthly basis. With these options, the fees are deducted from your weekly earnings. You will be able to pay directly to the lender (with the lease option) in the event that you don’t drive for one week. The lease program requires approval. The rental program does not. The lease program requires a $250 non-refundable deposit. You can end the lease 30 days after your first payment. With the rental program, there is a refundable deposit required for one company and no deposit for the other company. Rates vary with companies as well.
Once you have your vehicle information entered you will have to agree to a background check. The background usually takes 2-3 weeks to come back. Uber will contact you via text and email to notify you of changes to your account.
After the background check is complete, you will receive notification that you are clear to drive. That’s it. It is that easy! Most of the process is waiting for the background check to be completed (if you have your own car). I did not go through the lease/rental program, I joined uber with a personal vehicle. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
